1. Island Adventures: Lady Liberty and the Downtown Waterfront

Set sail to visit Lady Liberty, the fascinating Ellis Island museum, and enjoy the dazzling skyline view of Manhattan from the ferry. Back on dry land, stroll along the beautiful waterfront esplanade or tour the concrete canyons of downtown Manhattan. Walk down Wall Street and lunch al fresco on historic Stone Street. Pretend you’re a pirate aboard a 1911 sailing vessel, then come face-to-face with some of New York City’s most notorious criminals at the Police Museum. Information about 9/11 memorials, the World Trade Center site, and tours given by The Tribute Center is also provided.

2. Concrete Canyons: The Financial District, Past and Present

History lovers, this is the itinerary for you. Learn about the recently discovered pre-Revolutionary stone walls and where they were found. See where George Washington was inaugurated to become our nation’s first president and trace his footsteps to the chapel where he attended service. Visit the churchyard where Alexander Hamilton, Robert Fulton and other famous figures are buried. See the institution which was founded in 1792 when brokers traded shares on the sidewalk under a buttonwood tree. Go below sea level into a vault filled with gold, or step in front of the 7,000 pound charging Wall Street bull. This itinerary also includes information on three free guided walking tours of the Financial District area.

3. Brooklyn Bound: Brownstones and the Bridge

Leave Manhattan behind for a day’s adventure in another New York City borough. A breezy water taxi ride will glide you across the East River to visit two different and distinct Brooklyn neighborhoods. In Brooklyn Heights, historic churches, townhouses, carriage houses, and brownstones line scenic, shady streets. In Dumbo, tucked among old warehouses, are art galleries, hand-crafted chocolate and pastry shops, one of NYC’s top pizza parlors, and a waterfront park nestled under the soaring Brooklyn Bridge. When you’re ready to head back to Manhattan, there’s no better way then a trip across that famous icon. You’ll feel the energy of the city and enjoy a view like no other.

4: Leafy Streets, Cafes, and Boutiques: SoHo and the Village

For anyone who thinks shopping and eating are what vacations are made for, who secretly harbors the hope of spotting a celebrity, who prefers meandering instead rigid plans, this day was designed for you. Whether you’d prefer a perfect cup of coffee from a popular coffee shop, a perfect pint of beer from an old tavern built in 1880, or an egg cream from a soda fountain, we’ve got you covered. There are places to see from your favorite TV shows like Sex and the City, Friends, and The Cosby Show, shopping to do in unique specialty stores, and interesting architecture to see like the narrowest house in NYC (only 9 ½ feet wide!). Satisfy any hunger along the way by sampling traditional southern Indian dosas, visiting an entire restaurant dedicated to peanut butter, eating NY-style thin crust pizza from a restaurant that’s been serving New Yorkers since 1905, or designing your own gourmet cookies and eating them straight from the oven.

6. New York, New York: Famous Midtown Landmarks

In just one day you could see your face in lights on a Times Square billboard, stand on the stage of a historic Broadway theater, visit the locker room of the New York Knicks, see the set of a popular TV show, and soar up to the 86th floor of a skyscraper to enjoy spectacular views of the city below. If your feet should grow weary from all this adventure, you could hop in a pedicab to visit the opulent, private study of a wealthy banker, gaze up at the unique ornamentation on the Chrysler Building and the beautifully restored sky ceiling in Grand Central Terminal, or rest and dine outdoors in a park, enjoying a free afternoon concert. 7. Carousels and Carriages: Midtown and Central Park for the Young at Heart

Anyone traveling with children (and those adults who are just kids in disguise) will find plenty to see and do with this itinerary. Head to Central Park to visit penguins and pythons in the zoo, ride one of 58 hand painted carousel horses, climb aboard a hot air balloon ride at the amusement park, or tour the park in style in a horse-drawn carriage. 8. Museums, Mansions, and Meadows: Central Park and the Upper East/West Sides

Opulence abounds in this day spent discovering the treasures of Upper Manhattan. Luxury, glamour, and riches are on display in the boutiques along Madison Ave. and in the extraordinary period rooms at the Met.
